100 + People Who Care – Grinnell voted at the January 28 membership meeting to support Grinnell’s American Brawn charity in its work of providing equipment upgrades for area first responder units. Kent Reed presented the appeal for funding, noting his own experience in a life-threatening accident and the heroic work of those who
dedicate their lives to helping others. American Brawn’s advisory board will help select the specific pieces of equipment to be purchased with the 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell funds.
Two other very worthy projects were nominated at the membership meeting, but the plurality vote directed this quarter’s funding to American Brawn. With membership now at 131, more than $ 13,000 will be generated to support American Brawn’s mission, as each member makes a $ 100 donation to the pooled philanthropic effort. With this quarter’s funding, 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell has successfully moved nearly $ 108,000 to worthy causes in the area, since the organization’s inception in January, 2017.
Since, in some cases, spouses or friends share a single membership, the total number of individuals now supporting 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell exceeds 170! Membership meetings are held four times each year, with the next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 28. It will be held at St. Mary Church, at 5:30 p.m. The meetings are open to any who would like to learn more about the organization, and new members continue to be welcomed.
