100 + People Who Care – Grinnell will meet Tuesday, July 23, at 5:30 p.m. This hour-long, quarterly meeting will be held at the Parish Center of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1002 Broad Street, Grinnell. This will be a voting meeting for the organization, where a decision is made regarding support for a community organization in the greater Grinnell area. With total membership now at 124, the beneficiary organization will receive at least $ 12,400 in donations.
Those attending the meeting will also receive an update report on the progress of the Poweshiek County Dental Coalition’s programs, since this was the project selected for funding by vote of the members at the April 23 quarterly meeting. Then, at the July 23 meeting, members will nominate charitable entities in the greater Grinnell area. Three of the nominations will be drawn, with the nominators offering a brief description of the project. There will be an opportunity for questions regarding each project, prior to the membership vote. The project receiving the most votes becomes the recipient entity for the new quarter of the year. The meeting concludes with each member writing a $ 100 check to that entity.
Since July is a month for vacations and travel, 100 + members are encouraged to send their checks with friends or get them to one of the Board members prior to the meeting, to avoid a delay in getting the funding out to the beneficiary organization.
100 + People Who Care – Grinnell had its beginning in January, 2107, and is based on a model pioneered in 2006 in Jackson, Michigan. The concept is very simple. One hundred people, each willing to write a check for $ 100 will result in a total of $ 10,000 being raised to benefit a community organization. This action happens four times per year. With Grinnell’s membership continuing to rise nicely above 100, the beneficiary organization will receive a benefit well beyond $ 10,000. World-wide, there are more than 600 chapters of “100 People Who Care” organizations, with other, regional ones being based in Des Moines, Marshalltown, Cedar Rapids, and Pella.
Membership in 100 + People Who Care – Grinnell is open to all. Those who would like to join are invited to attend the July 23 meeting. It is also possible to attend as a non-voting guest, in order to learn more about the organization.
